AMBASSADOR MARKARIAN ATTENDS OPENING OF CHURCH IN ORLANDO, FL

06 June, 2010

Festivities surrounding the consecration of the new Armenian Church in Orlando, FL on June 5th and 6th led by Archbishop Khajag Barsamian, Primate of the Eastern Diocese of the Armenian Church of America were attended by H.E. Mr. Tatoul Markarian, Ambassador of the Republic of Armenia to the US. The event brought together the Armenian community of the Greater Orlando area, as well as local clergy from other Armenian churches of Florida . The door opening ceremony and the official consecration of the new Soorp Haroutiun Church was performed by Archbishop Barsamian.

In his address during the following celebratory banquet Ambassador Markarian noted: “Undoubtedly, building a new Armenian church is a sign of the vitality of the Armenian community of the greater Orlando area. It also means our next generations will be not only well established and loyal citizens of the United States, but also dedicated representatives of our nation and our church, and great compatriots of our Homeland - Armenia. By building this truly Armenian church you have made your presence, our Armenian presence, more visible and vivid in the Greater Orlando area.”

Archbishop Barsamian stated that active participation and attendance of the members of the Orlando Armenian community is the best guarantee and insurance for the newly built Soorp Haroutiun church to endure. The idea for this church was born 25 years ago and became a reality thanks to tireless efforts of the Diocese, the community members and benefactors.
