Commemoration of the 26th Anniversary of the Sumgait Massacres

On February 28 the 26th anniversary of the Armenian massacres in the Azerbaijani city Sumgait were commemorated by the liturgy and the event at St. Mary Armenian Apostolic Church in Washington, D.C. Archbishop Khajag Barsamian, the Primate of Diocese of the Armenian Church of America, led the liturgy which was attended by the Ambassador of Armenia to the United States Tatoul Markarian, the staff of the Embassy of Armenia, members of the Representation of Nagorno Karabakh, as well as representatives of the American Armenian community.

Following the address by the Holy Father, Ambassador Tatoul Markarian expressed appreciation for the Armenian community and the coordinated activities of its different institutions in raising awareness about issues concerning Armenia and Armenians, and in addressing the current challenges.

On the same day members of the Embassy of Armenia and the Nagorno Karabakh Representation participated at the liturgy in Soorp Khach Armenian Apostolic Church of Washington D.C. in memory of the innocent victims of the Sumgait massacres.
