Ambassador Sargsyan visits Los Angeles

01 October, 2014

From September 30 to October 1, Tigran Sargsyan, Ambassador of Armenia to the United States visited Los Angeles to participate in the events dedicated to the 23rd Anniversary of Independence of the Republic of Armenia.

At the meeting held in the Consulate General of Armenia, the Armenian Ambassador and Spiritual Leaders of the Armenian Apostolic Church, leaders and members of the Armenian organizations discussed a wide range of issues related to Armenia’s foreign policy, the Armenian-American relations, the Armenia-Diaspora cooperation, and other issues of the Armenian-American community’s concern.

Later, Mr. Tigran Sargsyan, the Consul General of the Republic of Armenia in Los Angeles Sergey Sarkisov, and the Representative of NKR Robert Avetisyan, accompanied by the leaders of the community structures, representatives of the religious and cultural organizations, foreign diplomats accredited in Los Angeles and numerous guests attended the official event dedicated to the 23rd anniversary of the Independence of Armenia.

In his remarks, Ambassador Sargsyan congratulated the attendees on the 23rd Anniversary of Armenia’s Independence. He noted that the establishment of the Third Republic of Armenia was inspired and spiritually nourished by our First Republic which lived 1918-1920. The Ambassador outlined that should there had not been those heroic years, today’s independence would not be possible. Sacrifice of our ancestors, who defended that piece of our land with their blood, suffering unspeakable losses, made possible today's achievements.

Ambassador Sargsyan also underscored that the path to independence was not smooth. However, Armenia has always been determined to become a democratic state guied by the principles of market economy, human rights, and fundamental freedoms. “With this regard, the technical and financial assistance provided by the United States has always been of critical importance, and we are grateful to the US Government for its generous and unceasing support”, the Ambassador said.

Ambassador Sargsyan also highlighted the role of the Armenian Diaspora in the creation of the Armenian statehood. “We will never forget the important role of our compatriots, particularly those living in the United States, who contributed to all our victories and achievements. I avail myself of this opportunity to express my deep gratitude and urge you to always support Armenia and further expand your participation and input in the development and strengthening of our Homeland. We are confident that our cause is just and through the joint and coordinated efforts we - the citizens of Armenia and our brothers and sisters in the Diaspora - will succeed in overcoming all difficulties and challenges and will further empower our Motherland,” Ambassador Sargsyan mentioned.

Within the framework of the visit, Ambassador Sargsyan also met with Brad Sherman, member of the House of Representative of the US Congress. Congressmen Sherman congratulated Ambassador Sargsyan on his appointment and reiterated his commitment and willingness to continue a close cooperation with Armenia and the Armenian nation.

Ambassador Sargsyan and Congressmen Sherman discussed a wide range of issues on the agenda of the Congressional Caucus on Armenian Issues, as well as exchanged views on Armenian’s foreign policy, the Nagorno Karabakh peace process, regional developments, and security issues.
