Opening ceremony of the office of the Honorary Consul of the Republic of Armenia

On October 20, Fresno hosted the office opening ceremony of the first Honorary Consul of the Republic of Armenia in the United States. Earlier, on October 15, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia Edward Nalbandian appointed Berj Apkarian as the Honorary Consul. The ribbon cutting ceremony was attended by Ambassador of the Republic of Armenia in the United States Tigran Sargsyan, Consul General of the Republic of Armenia in Los Angeles Sergey Sarkisov, Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Nagorno Karabakh Artur Aghabekyan, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Nagorno Karabakh to the United States Robert Avetisyan, as well as other members of the community and religious leaders.

Members of Fresno County Board of Supervisors,headed by Chairman Andreas Borgeas, California State Senate member Tom Berryhill, US Congressman Jim Costa, Justice Fifth District Court of Appeal Charles Poochigian, as well as foreign diplomats, other officials of Fresno region and about 400 representatives of community organizations attended the dinner following the opening ceremony.

In his speech the Honorary Consul of RA in Fresno Berj Apkarian thanked the government of the Republic of Armenia for the responsibility entrusted to him. He mentioned that his main goal and objective is to expand the relations between Fresno and Armenia and to promote cultural and business relations.
