Ambassador Sargsyan’s meeting with Congressman Schiff

On January 22, H.E. Tigran Sargsyan, Ambassador of Armenia to the United States had a meeting with Congressman Adam Schiff, from California's 28th congressional district.

Ambassador Sargsyan and Congressman Schiff touched upon a wide range of issues on the agenda of the Congressional Armenian Caucus. Ambassador Sargsyan highly appreciated the continuous personal input of Congressman Schiff in raising issues related to Armenia and the Armenian people in the U.S. political agenda. On his turn Congressman Schiff reassured his commitment.

The sides discussed the recent developments in the region, in particular, escalation of tension across the line of contact between Nagorno Karabakh and Azerbaijan and along the Armenian-Azerbaijani border. Within this context Congressman Schiff emphasized the priority to undertake efforts aimed at the maintenance of peace and stability in the region. Ambassador Sargsyan noted that it is crucial that the United States and the international community in general, have more active involvement and role in that regards.

Ambassador Sargsyan and the Congressman Schiff outlined the importance of American investment and stressed the positive experience of IT sector, and the cooperation with the companies and investors of the Silicon Valley. Congressman emphasized the importance of the ArmTech conference, mentioning that his first meeting with the Ambassador took place during the ArmTech conference where he was participating as a supporter of the Armenian-American economic relations.

Upon the Congressman’s request, Ambassador Sargsyan reflected on Armenia’s membership in the Eurasian Economic Union, the processes within the Union and the perspectives of Armenia’s EEU membership.

Ambassador Sargsyan also presented the preparatory works of the events dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide and emphasized the importance of U.S. Congressmen participation in the events organized in Armenia and Diaspora.
