Ambassador Sargsyan’s meeting with the representatives of Yazidi community

On February 18, H.E. Tigran Sargsyan, Ambassador of Armenia to the United States met with Amo Sharoyan, Chairman of Yazidis MIDIA Shangal National Union NGO, who was in Washington on a working visit, and Dakhil Shammo Eliasm, founder of the Kurdish Community Center D.C.

Welcoming the guests Ambassador Sargsyan highly appreciated the Armenian-Yazidis centuries-old friendship and input of the Yazidi community in the social and economic development of the Republic of Armenia. Ambassador, in particular, mentioned that the Yazidi community has always been an active participant in the political, social and cultural life of Armenia.

In the course of meeting Ambassador and representatives of Yazidis communities discussed issues concerning the development and enhancement of the relations between the Armenian and Yazidi national institutions, as well as the organization of joint commemorative events within the framework of Centennial of the Armenian Genocide. The sides expressed mutual readiness to undertake active steps in that direction.

The parties also touched upon the problems that national and religious minorities are facing amid the processes in the Middle East, coordination of steps towards their settlement.
