ADDRESS BY H.E. TIGRAN SARGSYAN, AMBASSADOR OF THE REPUBLIC OF ARMENIA TO THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,
TO THE PARTICIPANTS OF THE 113TH ANNUAL DIOCESAN ASSEMBLY AND CLERGY CONFERENCE OF THE UNITED STATES EASTERN DIOCESE OF THE ARMENIAN APOSTOLIC CHURCH
WASHINGTON, D.C., MAY 04-10, 2015

I have the privilege and pleasure to extend my warm greetings to the delegates and participants of the 113th Annual Diocesan Assembly and Clergy Conference to be held in Washington, DC on May 4-10, 2015.

Since the first days of its foundation, the Eastern Diocese has played an invaluable role in the life of Armenian Community of the region. For many decades, Churches of the Eastern Diocese have served humbly to promote Christian values and worked diligently to lead the spiritual life and keep the religious traditions of American-Armenians.

The Eastern Diocese, however, is not merely a religious institution. Historically, the Armenian Church carries out a much wider mission. The Eastern Diocese, through its more than a century-long history, has been one of the educational and cultural centers of the Armenian Community. It has become one of the centers of gravity of Armenian life and one of the main pillars of Armenian identity. Today, as we commemorate the Centennial of the Armenian Genocide, it is especially important to recall, and pay special tribute to, the remarkable role played by the Eastern Diocese in the early decades of the 20th century, as thousands of Genocide survivors came to join the Armenian Community of North America.

Moreover, the Eastern Diocese, as a constituent part of the Armenian Church, has always walked alongside the Armenian statehood uniting those who are devoted to the Republic of Armenia, and who are genuinely interested in its achievements, and concerned about its challenges. It has never spared energy and resources to help our Motherland and contributed to all initiatives aimed at its development and progress.

In conclusion, I would like to wish you every success in your important mission and express our gratitude for your commitment.
