On June 3-4 the 31st annual Cyprus and Hellenic leadership conference was held in Washington D.C.

Ambassador of Cyprus to the US George Chacalli, Ambassador of Greece Christos Panagopoulos, President of the "Justice for Cyprus” International Coordinating Committee (PSEKA) Philip Christopher, Ambassadors of Egypt and Israel, as well as White House Communications Director Jennifer Psaki were among the speakers. The event was attended by many Greek organizations operating in the USA.

In his speech, Ambassador Sargsyan presented Armenia's cooperation with Greece and Cyprus. He noted that the deep historical ties and existing friendly relations between Armenian and Greek people are the basis for further active and effective cooperation. The cooperation in military sphere and in the international organizations, as well as the importance of mutual support in the resolution of Cyprus problem and the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict was stressed by the Ambassador. Attendees applauded to the information presented by Ambassador Sargsyan that the National Assembly of Armenia recently adopted a resolution recognizing the genocide of the Pontic Greeks and Assyrians and declaring May 19 a day of remembrance of the tragedy.

The other speakers in their speeches stressed the importance of the shared use of energy resources in the eastern Mediterranean region, as well as the wide range of regional cooperation perspectives in construction of a gas pipeline to the European Continent.

Representatives of the Greek community mentioned the Armenian Genocide Centennial multiple times in their speeches, highlighting the existence of strong friendly ties with Armenians.
