Ambassador Sargsyan's Address to the ANCA Western Region Gala

On October 25, 2015, Ambassador Tigran Sargsyan attended the Annual Gala Banquet of the Armenian National Committee of America, Western Region which took place in Los Angeles. The event is among the most significant ones for the ANCA, where more than 1,500 activists, supporters, donors, and public officials come together to acknowledge the work done by the organization and honor and thank those who have been staunch and steadfast supporters of the Armenian Cause. Below is the written statement of Ambassador Sargsyan, on the occasion of the Annual Gala Banquet.

It is my distinct privilege to take part in ANCA-WR Annual Gala Banquet, which is truly considered to be one of the largest and most prestigious gatherings of the Armenian community in the world. The fact that we all mark the Centennial of the Armenian Genocide in 2015, makes today’s banquet even more significant.

One cannot underestimate the tremendous role that the Armenian National Committee of America plays in the life of Armenian Americans. This is the largest and most influential Armenian-American grassroots organization. It was established in 1918 as the Armenian Committee for the Independence of Armenia and restructured into ANCA in 1941. Since then, ANCA has played a very important and instrumental role in initiating legislation on issues concerning not only Armenian Americans, but also Armenia and Artsakh. The organization participates actively in the electoral process of the United States, both at the local and federal level, giving objective and relevant information on Armenian issues to the elected officials, as well as sharing the stance of those officials on Armenian issues to the Armenian-American voters.

The Government of the Republic of Armenia highly appreciates all the efforts that the ANCA continuously puts into elevating the awareness on Armenian issues in the US as well as strengthening Armenia and Artsakh and promoting their interests.

Lastly, I would like to express my heartfelt congratulations to this year’s honorees: Walter Karabian, Sir Geoffrey Robertson and Amal Clooney, Eric Bogosian, and the Armenian Youth Federation WUS. I am confident that all the distinguished honorees have been selected for their unique contribution to the “Armenian agenda” and this appreciation will give them more incentive to continue their noble causes.
