Ambassador Nersesyan’s participation in the Inaugural Divine Liturgy by Newly-Ordained Bishop Daniel Findikyan, Primate of the Eastern Diocese of the Armenian Church

18 May, 2019

On May 18 Ambassador Varuzhan Nersesyan traveled to New York to participate in the inaugural Episcopal Divine Liturgy by newly-ordained Primate of the Eastern Diocese of the Armenian Church, His Grace Bishop Daniel Findikyan at St. Vartan Armenian Cathedral. Among those attended were distinguished high-ranking clergy from the Armenian Church, foreign ecumenical leaders, diplomats, and representatives of the Armenian-American community from across the Eastern Diocese.

Later in the evening Ambassador Nersesyan spoke at the celebratory banquet, hosted by St. Nersess Armenian Seminary, in honor of former Primate of the Eastern Diocese Archbishop Khajag Barsamian and the newly-ordained Primate Bishop Daniel Findikyan. In his remarks Ambassador Nersesyan extended his congratulations to Bishop Daniel on his consecration and wished him well in his service as the spiritual leader of the Eastern Diocese. Ambassador Nersesyan also recognized the longtime service of Archbishop Khajag Barsamian, who was the longest-serving Primate of the Eastern Diocese, serving his community for 28 years, and congratulated him on his new assignment as Pontifical Legate of the Armenian Church in Western Europe and Representative of the Armenian Church to the Holy See.

Ambassador Nersesyan also spoke about Armenia’s efforts towards protecting the Christian minorities of the Middle East and our country’s role as the 3rd largest recipient of Syrian refugees in Europe on per capita basis, as well as the prospects for cooperation with the United States in this area.
