During his working visit to Washington D.C. Armenian Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan met with U.S. Acting Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Philip T. Reeker on June 19. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State George Kent, US Co-Chair of the OSCE Minsk Group Andrew Schofer and Ambassador of Armenia to the U.S. Varuzhan Nersesyan also participated in the meeting.
The interlocutors discussed a wide range of issues related to the Armenian-American partnership and underlined the mutual willingness to enlarge and enrich the versatile cooperation agenda.
Speaking of the inaugural session of the Armenia-U.S. Strategic Dialogue, which convened in Yerevan this May, the Armenian Foreign Minister welcomed the initiative to hold meetings in this format and reaffirmed the commitment of the Armenian side to implement the agreements reached during the session. According to the Minister, the Armenia-U.S. Strategic Dialogue, which includes cooperation in the areas of science, education, energy, trade, economy, Hi-tech and innovation, and tourism, also supports the reform agenda in Armenia through the implementation of targeted programs.
Minister Mnatsakanyan briefed his interlocutor on the broad agenda of reforms implemented by the Armenian government, emphasizing the priority of reforms in judiciary and law enforcement systems. In this context Minister Mnatsakanyan particularly acknowledged the need to coordinate and correlate the support of various foreign partners to ensure the stability and efficiency of the reforms.
During the meeting the interlocutors exchanged views on a number of international and regional issues.
Prior to the meeting between the Foreign Ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan, which is scheduled for June 20, the interlocutors touched upon the efforts towards the peaceful resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict under the OSCE Minsk Group.
