On June 20 Foreign Ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan Zohrab Mnatsakanyan and Elmar Mamadyarov met in Washington D.C., with the participation of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs Igor Popov of Russia, Stephan Visconti of France, Andrew Schofer of the United States and Andrzej Kasprzyk, Personal Representative of the OSCE Chairman-in-Office.

The Armenian side expressed gratitude to the U.S. Co-Chairmanship of the OSCE Minsk Group for hosting the consultations between the Foreign Ministers, as a follow up to the meetings held in Paris and Moscow.

The participants exchanged views on the core issues of the Nagorno-Karabakh peace process and the current situation.

The sides discussed issues related to the tension on the Line of Contact prior to the meeting and the ways of addressing them, and thus re-establishing the environment conducive to peace. The Armenian side emphasized the ceasefire consolidation and implementation of risk reduction measures for prevention of incidents and early detection. The positions and approaches of the Armenian side in the peace process were also reiterated.

During the Washington meeting, the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs shared their views on the advancement of the peace process with the Foreign Ministers, including in the humanitarian sphere. The OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs issued a statement on the outcomes of the meeting.

Foreign Ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan agreed to continue consultations in the coming months under the auspices of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs.
