On July 16th Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan, who is on a working visit in Washington D.C. to participate in the second Ministerial Conference to Advance Religious Freedom, met with U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Europe and Eurasia Philip T. Reeker.

During the meeting both sides highlighted the importance of the Ministerial Conference to Advance Religious Freedom as a cooperation platform for joint efforts of the international community to defend the freedom of religion and belief.

Zohrab Mnatsakanyan shared Armenia’s position on implementing the right to religious freedom, emphasizing the importance of protecting religious groups at risk. The interlocutors touched upon the issue of protecting the religious minorities, particularly Christians, in the Middle East.

During the meeting the interlocutors acknowledged the recent dynamics in Armenia-U.S. bilateral relations, underlining that the current bilateral agenda is a strong basis for further enhancing cooperation in different areas.

At the meeting the interlocutors exchanged views on a number of international and regional issues.

The Armenian Foreign Minister and the U.S. Acting Assistant Secretary of State also touched upon the Nagorno-Karabakh peace process and the June 20 meeting in Washington. Both sides emphasized the need to create a positive environment to promote the peace process.
