On June 26th President of the Republic of Armenia Armen Sarkissian arrived to the United States on a three-day working visit.

On the first day of the visit the President and the First Lady attended a reception at the US Senate to celebrate the Centennial anniversary of the Republic of Armenia and 100 years of US-Armenia diplomatic relations, organized by the Embassy of Armenia to the United States, the ARF Eastern Region and ANCA.

Senator Menendez, as well as some dozen Representatives, including Co-Chair of the Armenian Caucus Jackie Speier, Representatives Anna Eshoo, Judy Chu, Brad Sherman, Dana Rohrabacher, Paul Tonko, Raja Krishnamoorthi, Brad Schneider, and others, spoke to a sold-out audience. The solemn ceremony also drew a number of senior members of the US administration – Departments of State and Defense, USAID, Office of the US Trade Representative, as well as several hundreds of community members across the USA.

In his speech President Sarkissian touched upon the century-old US-Armenia relations and the current bilateral agenda, as well as the reforms Armenia is undergoing as a result of the “Velvet” revolution and their impact on Armenia’s foreign policy.

The event featured a performance of Armenian folk music by “Noor” Qanon ensemble, which is slated to perform throughout the Smithsonian Folklife Festive.
