On April 24 the Washington DC area Armenian community participated in the traditional wreath laying ceremony to commemorate the 102nd anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. The solemn ceremony was marked by the annual community prayer, offered by Archbishop Vicken Aykazian, Diocesan Legate of the Diocese of Armenian Apostolic Church in Eastern US, joined by Soorp Khatch Armenian Apostolic Church pastor, Father Sarkis Aktavoukian and St. Mary's Armenian Church pastor, Father Hovsep Karapetyan.
On April 5 the Embassy of the Republic of Armenia to the US joined the Congressional Caucus on Armenian Issues, the Armenian Assembly of America and the Armenian National Committee of America for the annual Capitol Hill commemoration of the Armenian Genocide.
On March 22 Ambassador of the Republic of Armenia to the US Grigor Hovhanissian held meetings at the Congress with Republican Congressmen, co-chairs of The Congressional Armenian Caucus David Valadao and David Trott, as well as member of the Caucus Douglas Lamborn.
On March 14 the Embassy of Armenia to the US hosted the inaugural reception, marking the launch of the DC Francophonie Festival with an exhibit of paintings by renowned French-Armenian artist Jean Kazandjian. This is the Embassy’s first participation to the traditional DC Francophonie festival, which has become one of the major diplomatic-cultural events of the US capital.
On September 28th, 2016 Embassy of Armenia to the United States and Hayastan All Armenian Fund hosted a reception dedicated to the 25thanniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Armenia. The reception was held at the headquarters of the Organization of American States in Washington DC.
On September 21th, 2016 the Embassy of Armenia in the United States on the occasion of Armenia’s Independence Day, organized a reception dedicated to the Congressional Armenian Caucus Members and their achievements in developing Armenia-US relations.
On June 13th, 2016, leaders of Armenian American organizations and Churches met in Washington, DC and agreed to convene Armenian Americans in the nation's capital in Fall 2016 to celebrate the independence of the Republic of Armenia and the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Armenia and the United States. Participants from across the country will gather for a series of special events that will be jointly developed, planned and promoted over the coming months.

On May 19 a wine tasting reception was held at the Embassy of Armenia. The Vineyards of Armenia organization brought together eight different Armenian wine producers to introduce Armenian winery to Washingtonians.
Ambassador Hovhannissian expressed his gratitude to Secretary General Almagro for the principled position of the Organization of American States in the wake of Azerbaijan’s aggression against the people of Artsakh back in April 2016.
