Commemoration Event in the U.S. for the 96th Anniversary of the Armenian Genocide

24 April, 2011

On April 24, a commemoration and wreath-laying ceremony was held near the cross-stone at the Embassy of Armenia in the U.S. in remembrance of the 1.5 million victims of the Armenian Genocide.

Spiritual Fathers of Washington’s St. Mary and the Holy Cross Church held a service to commemorate the victims of the Armenian Genocide, with the participation of hundreds of people representing all branches of the Armenian community of Washington and neighboring states.

Ambassador Tatoul Markarian delivered a speech, noting that the year was marked by new achievements in the legislative field for Genocide recognition. The California and Massachusetts state court decisions were a serious blow to Turkish denial. The Ambassador emphasized that Genocide denial is a continuation of the crime of Genocide, and it is condemned.

Ambassador Markarian congratulated participants of the ceremony on the occasion of Easter and the Resurrection, which were celebrated on the same day, emphasizing the role of firm and unbending faith in overcoming past horrors and in the struggle to restore historical justice.
