Ambassador Tigran Sargsyan Presents Credentials to the U.S. President

On July 14, Tigran Sargsyan the newly appointed Ambassador of the Republic of Armenia to the U.S., presented his credentials to the U.S. President Barack Obama.

During the official credential ceremony, Ambassador Sargsyan noted that high-level U.S.-Armenia relations are marked by effective cooperation. The Ambassador added that the two countries have great potential for development of relations, and that his mission will focus on the development and expansion of mutually beneficial cooperation.

Welcoming and congratulating Tigran Sargsyan on starting his diplomatic mission, U.S. President Barack Obama expressed confidence that the newly appointed Ambassador of Armenia will use the his great experience and knowledge to deepen relations between the two friendly nations and countries.

President Obama also emphasized that the United States attaches importance to the relations with Armenian based on the mutual respect and interests, to the cooperation in international peacekeeping missions, as well as to the strengthening of democracy and economic development.

President Obama also highly appreciated Armenia’s commitment to reach a peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and strengthen security in the South Caucasus.

Both sides emphasized that the Armenian-American community has an important role in the development of friendly relations between the U.S. and Armenia.

On July 3, Tigran Sargsyan, Ambassador of Armenia to the United States, presented the copies of his credentials to Heather Higginbottom, U.S. Deputy Secretary of State. During a tête-à-tête meeting, Ambassador Sargsyan and Deputy Secretary Higginbottom discussed the main directions of Armenian-American cooperation and the perspectives of strengthening and developing of the relations.

On the same day Ambassador Sargsyan had a meeting with Amb. Peter Selfridge, U.S. Chief of Protocol and Mr. Eric Rubin, U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs. The sides touched upon a wide range of issues of bilateral cooperation.
