Meeting of Ambassador Tigran Sargsyan with Mr. Eric Rubin, Deputy Assistant Secretary for European and Eurasian Affairs

On October 14, 2014, Ambassador Tigran Sargsyan met with Mr. Eric Rubin, Deputy Assistant for European and Eurasian Affairs.

The two sides discussed all main issues of the Armenian-American relations. With regard to bilateral military cooperation, they expressed mutual satisfaction with the dynamism existing in this area and emphasized Armenia’s growing participation in international peacekeeping operations.

They also discussed the prospects of strengthening bilateral economic relations. Armenian Ambassador emphasized Armenia’s interests in establishing mechanisms to promote bilateral trade and investment. In this context he mentioned the importance of Trade and Investment Framework Agreement as well as the Double Taxation Treaty which are being discussed within the framework of US-Armenia Joint Economic Task Force.

Ambassador Sargsyan and Mr. Rubin had an exchange of views on negotiations on peaceful resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and Armenian-Turkish relations. In this context the American side emphasized its willingness to continue exerting every effort to maintain peace and stability in the region.

Lastly, the two sides touched upon the reform agenda of Armenian Government. The American side assured that it would permanently support the efforts of the Armenian Government aimed at strengthening democratic institutions, enforcing rule of law, developing civil society and improving public administration.

The two parties agreed to continue such meetings on a regular basis.
