Annual meeting of the Armenian Assembly of America at the Embassy of Armenia

23 November, 2014

On November 22, the Armenian Assembly of America convened its annual meeting, which was traditionally held at the premises of the Embassy of Armenia in Washington D.C. Board members of the organization, representatives of the central and local institutions of the US East Coast, members of the Armenian community attended the event.

The remarks of H.E. Tigran Sargsyan, Ambassador of Armenia to the United States, were presented by Mr. Hrachia Tashchian, Deputy Chief of Mission. Ambassador Sargsyan mentioned that the Armenian Assembly of America plays a pivotal role in presenting and promoting the Armenian interests in the United States. The AAA has a significant input in important issues, such as the development of bilateral relations with the United States and neutralization of anti-Armenian lobbyist activities by Azerbaijan and Turkey. Within the context of regional developments, it was mentioned that the main goal of Azerbaijan’s blackmail policy towards Armenia and the international community is to gain an advantage in the negotiation process. In this regards it was underlined that Armenia will never yield to the intimidations and provocations. “Our position is unwavering – the vital interests of Artsakh can never be a topic for negotiations. And the Armenian community of the Unites States is the power which can neutralize and bring to naught Azerbaijan’s efforts aimed at misleading the American society and the American political leadership”, the Ambassador noted in his remarks.

During the meeting remarks were delivered by the AAA Board member Annie Totah, the AAA Executive Director Bryan Ardouny, who presented the organization’s activities undertaken this year and outlined the upcoming projects.

Mr. John Hanessian, one of the founding fathers of the Armenian Assembly of America, was honored during the event. The award was presented to his widow Elizabeth Hanessian.
