Reception dedicated to the 28th Anniversary of the Independence

 On October 3rd the Embassy of the Republic of Armenia in the US held an official reception dedicated to the 28th Anniversary of the Independence of Armenia.
The event was attended by ambassadors, representatives of international organizations, diplomatic missions accredited to Washington, high-level representatives of US authorities, defense attaches, representatives of various spheres of the US social-political life, as well as leaders and representatives of the Armenian Dioceses, and Diasporan community organizations
Varuzhan Nersesyan, the Ambassador of the Republic of Armenia to the USA delivered a speech highlighting the achievements gained during the years of independence, the victory in the Artsakh liberation war, as well as the Diaspora’s invaluable contribution in the development and strengthening of Armenia.
Ambassador Nersesyan highlighted the importance of the nonviolent, velvet revolution of 2018, noting that the Armenian people united around the idea of bringing change and turning Armenia into a more successful and prosperous country. Touching upon Armenian-American relations, the Ambassador emphasized the dynamic development since independence and noted that the Velvet Revolution opened new prospects for further expansion and enhancement of bilateral relations. Ambassador Nersesyan underscored the launch of a Strategic Dialogue this May. which brought bilateral relations to a qualitatively new level with its comprehensive agenda.
In her remarks, Cheryl Fernandes, Director of the Office of Caucasus Affairs and Regional Conflicts at the U.S. Department of State, stressed the importance of Armenian-American relations and the prospects of their enhancement, also highlighting the democratic and economic reforms in Armenia. The American official stressed the development of Information Technologies in Armenia, noting that Armenia is becoming a significant regional hub in this field and the proof is the fact that the 2019 World Congress on Information Technology is being held in Yerevan in October.
