On January 30, the Embassy of the Republic of Armenia to the USA hosted a reception on the occasion of the 28th anniversary of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Armenia.
Varuzhan Nersesyan, the Ambassador of Armenia to the USA, in his opening remarks touched upon the history of formation of Armenian Armed forces and highlighted its role as the cornerstone of Armenia’s security.
The Ambassador also stressed the importance of Armenian-American military cooperation in the context of strategic dialogue launched last year that provides a platform for comprehensive discussions.
Ambassador Nersesyan paid tribute to the memory of all those who gave their lives for the defense of our homeland and expressed gratitude to all men and women in uniform who guarantee the peace and security.
Colonel Arman Mkrtchyan, Defense Attache of the Repubilc of Armenia, in his speech underlined that Armenian servicemen not only safeguard the country’s borders, but also have their input in the success of peace operations in Kosovo, Afghanistan, Lebanon and Mali within various international formats.
Laura Cooper, Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Russia, Ukraine, Eurasia, congratulated on the occasion and shared impressions from her recent trip to Armenia expressing appreciation on discussions with Armenian authorities on broad and comprehensive partnership between our countries. She also underlined the role of State partnership program with Kansas National guard as the bedrock of military cooperation with Armenia.
General Lee Tafanelli, the Military Commander of the Kansas National Guard, shared impressions from his recent visit to Armenia.
Ambassadors, Defense and Military attaches, representatives of Department of Defense, Department of State, representatives of Diplomatic corps, spiritual leaders and a number of representatives of the Armenian community attended the event.
