Event dedicated to the 75th Anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War took place by the initiative of the Russian Embassy to the USA on May 9. The celebration was held on-line because of the pandemic.
Heads of the Diplomatic Missions of the Commonwealth of Independent States to the USA, veterans residing in the US, as well as descendants of the heroes fallen during the War took part in the event.
Ambassador Nersesyan congratulated the participants with the anniversary, noting that this is yet another opportunity to pay a tribute to the memory of the heroes and to express our gratitude to those who had their contribution in forging the victory against fascism.
Ambassador Nersesyan highlighted that Armenians together with their brothers and sisters in arm of different nationalities triumphed over the forces of evil. Over than 500 thousand Armenians - 300 thousand of them from Armenia, 200 thousand from other Soviet countries fought in the War. Another 100 thousand Armenians fought in different armed forces of the Anti-Hitler Coalition.
Armenians had five marshals and more than sixty generals, more than a hundred of our compatriots were decorated with the highest honor of the Hero of the Soviet Union. The heroic path paved by the Marshal Baghramian, Admiral Isakov, Nelson Stepanyan and many others still inspire generations.
Ambassador Nersesyan emphasized the role of the Armenian-American community representatives in the Victory highlighting Ernest Dervishian, a recipient of the United States military’s highest decoration-Medal of Honor, for his courageous actions in the War, as well as George Juskalian- decorated member of the US Army.
Once again congratulating the veterans, the Ambassador wished them good health and well-being.
