A working discussion within the framework of the Armenia-US Parliamentary Friendship Group

On July 17, Varuzhan Nersesyan Ambassador of Armenia to the USA, within the framework of the Armenia-US Parliamentary Friendship Group, participated in a working discussion through video conference, with head of the group Lilit Makunts ("My Step" faction leader), Edmon Marukyan ("Bright Armenia" faction leader) Vahe Enfiajyan (Vice President of the National Assembly, "Prosperous Armenia” faction) and Co-chair of the Congressional Armenian Caucus Frank Pallone and vice-chair Adam Schiff.
During the meeting, the Armenian side highly appreciated the contribution of the Congressmen towards the development of the Armenian-American relations, and permanent support to Armenia and Artsakh.
The parties discussed the further enhancement and deepening of cooperation between the legislative bodies of the two countries.
The Armenian MPs briefed about the ceasefire violations by the Azerbaijani armed forces in the direction of the Tavush region of the Republic of Armenia starting from the afternoon of July 12, which were accompanied by targeting the population of the civil infrastructure of Berd city, Chinari and Aygepar villages on the region.
In this context, the legislators also condemned Turkey’s attempts to undermine regional security.
The parties touched upon the issues caused by the new type of coronavirus. The Armenian side presented the steps undertaken by the Government of Armenia to overcome the pandemic. In this regard, the Armenian MPs expressed gratitude to the US side for the support provided to Armenia.
Both sides agreed to take joint steps to raise the cooperation between the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia and US Congress into a new level.
