Ambassador Markarian’s visit to Mexico

On October 14-19, 2012, the Ambassador of Armenia to the U.S. Tatoul Markarian, concurrently appointed as the Ambassador of Armenia to the United Mexican States, paid a working visit to Mexico.

On October 18, Ambassador Markarian presented his credentials to Felipe Calderon, President of Mexico, after which a private talk was held with the participation of Foreign Minister Patricia Espinosa.

Ambassador Markarian’s meeting with the President of Mexico was preceded by meetings with Ms. Lourdes Aranda, Undersecretary of the Foreign Affairs and Ambassador Jose Ignacio Madraso, Director General of European Affairs. The Ambassador of Armenia was also received by Jesus Murillo Karam, the newly-elected President of the Chambers of Deputies of Mexico, as well as Vice President Francisco Arroyo Vieyra who has been responsible for the Senate foreign relations for years.

During the meetings at both the executive and legislative bodies the Mexican side expressed its great appreciation for the appointment of the Ambassador of Armenia to Mexico after a long break, adding that traditional friendly and balanced policy toward Armenia, as well as issues concerning Armenia and the region will be continued. Ambassador Markarian assured that the Armenian side is steadfast in the development and deepening of Armenian-Mexican relations.

During the visit, the Ambassador of Armenia also met with the leadership of ProMexico, a Mexican Government institution promoting foreign trade.

Ambassador Markarian received a warm welcome from the representatives of the Armenian community in Mexico and discussed with them possibilities of cooperation.
