Dr. Vartan Gregorian was awarded an Armenian state medal at the Embassy of Armenia

On May 16, at the official ceremony held at the Embassy of Armenia to the United States Dr. Vartan Gregorian, President of the Carnegie Corporation of New York and prominent member of the Armenian-American community received Mkhitar Gosh Medal awarded by the President of the Republic of Armenia for his great contribution to the strengthening of the Homeland-Diaspora relations and years of dedication to the Armenian issues.

While presenting the award, the Ambassador of Armenia to the United States Tatoul Markarian stressed that the state award is an acknowledgment of Mr. Gregorian’s great achievements, legacy and the commitment to the Armenian nation.

Mr. Gregorian particularly mentioned that this medal will have a special place among his numerous awards since he receives it from his independent and sovereign Homeland. Dr. Gregorian went on to call upon all Armenians to exert joint efforts for the preservation and future development of their Homeland since its independence was gained through great sacrifices.

Archbishop Vicken Aykazian, the Legate of the Eastern Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church, and representatives of the American-Armenian community delivered congratulatory remarks.

The reception was attended by clergymen of the Armenian Apostolic Church, representatives of the Armenian-American community and journalists.
