Ceremony in memory of the holy martyrs of the Armenian Genocide

24 April, 2020

On April 24, a wreath laying ceremony was held at the cross-stone dedicated to the memory of the Armenian Genocide victims erected in the side yard of the Armenian Embassy in the USA.
Fr. Hovsep Karapetyan from Washington DC’s St. Mary Armenian Apostolic Church and Fr. Sarkis Aktavoukian from Soorp Khatch Armenian Church offered a requiem prayer in memory of the holy martyrs of the Armenian Genocide.
H.E. Mr. Varuzhan Nersesyan, the Ambassador of the Republic of Armenia to the USA, noted that despite the situation caused by the spread of the COVID-19, the Armenians worldwide virtually participate in the events honoring the memory of the innocent martyrs of the Armenian Genocide commemorated on this day.
The Ambassador highlighted that 105 years ago the Ottoman Turkey’s policy of massacring the Armenians failed, as we survived, multiplied and today we are fighting for the recognition and condemnation of the Armenian Genocide, which is a must for preventing future atrocities against humanity.
Expressing gratitude to the US for the resolutions recognizing and condemning the Armenian Genocide passed by the Senate and House of Representatives, Ambassador Nersesyan emphasized that the US was one of those countries, which sheltered our ancestors, who survived the Genocide and then had their input in the development of the host country.
Today, when the world faces the pandemic, the American-Armenian community, as a symbolic act, has initiated providing aid to 1.5mln Americans in need. Currently, due to the fundraising it is possible to provide help up to 3.7 mln people. The Armenian Embassy to the US supports this initiative and eagerly joined it as a gratitude for providing the survivors with a shelter.
