Celebration of the 20th Anniversary of Armenia’s Independence in the U.S. Congress

On October 25, 2011, an event celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Republic of Armenia’s independence was held in the Foreign Relations Committee of Congress. The event was attended by over two dozen Congressional representatives, leaders of Armenian-American organizations, the Diocese Church and many representatives of the Armenian community.

In their speeches, the Congressmen congratulated Armenia for the 20th anniversary of its independence and praised its achievements on the path to formation of independent statehood. They also confirmed their dedication to continue working toward Armenian Genocide recognition, as well as to increase levels of assistance to Armenia and Nagorno Karabakh.

The Ambassador of Armenia to the U.S. Tatoul Markarian thanked the legislative and executive bodies for supporting Armenia’s independence from the very first day. Ambassador of Armenia emphasized the key role of the Armenian Caucus in providing both political and financial support to Armenia and Nagorno Karabakh.

Ambassador Markarian presented the Mkhitar gosh Medal to Congressmen Howard Berman and Adam Schiff, awarded by the President of Armenia.
