On April 18, within the framework of events celebrating the 500th anniversary of the Armenian book printing and the designation of Yerevan as the 2012 World Book Capital by UNESCO, the Library of Congress began hosting the exhibit “To Know Wisdom and Instruction: The Armenian Literary Tradition at the library of Congress”, featuring samples of Armenian literature, typography and contemporary designs from the archives of the Library of Congress.

The opening ceremony was attended by the Ambassador Tatoul Markarian, Armenia’s Deputy Minister of Culture Artur Poghosyan, Congressman Frank Pallone, U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretaries Eric Rubin and Marie Jovanovich, representatives of the White House, State Department and other agencies of the administration, the director of the Library of Congress, spiritual Fathers of the Armenian Apostolic Church, leaders of community organizations and representatives of the Armenian community.

On this occasion, the Library of Congress also published the research catalogue “To Know Wisdom and Instruction: the Armenian Literary Tradition at the Library of Congress”, authored by Levon Avdoyan, the exhibit coordinator and a specialist on Armenia and Georgia.
