Sporting games dedicated to the 20th anniversary of Armed Forces of the Republic of Armenia

The Armenian General Athletic Union (Homenetmen) held its 22nd regional U.S. East Coast interdivisional games on July 4-8 in Washington, D.C., dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Armenia. Over 500 participants representing the Armenian communities of 10 states took part in the competitions.

The official ceremony for the games took place on July 7. Tatoul Markarian,Ambassador of Armenia to the U.S., delivered welcoming remarks. With great appreciation for Homenetmen’s role in the upbringing of a new generation and the preservation of national identity in the Diaspora, Ambassador Markarian noted that the Homenetmen games are not merely a sporting event, but also an excellent opportunity to spread the spirit of unity and solidarity. He added that since the restoration of the homeland’s independence, the example of Homenetmen has inspired the emergence of new initiatives, including the Pan-Armenian games and “Baze” youth camp.

The games’ closing parade and award presentation ceremony took place on July 8. The Armenian Ambassador and the Military Attaché greeted and congratulated the participants.
