Armenian Olympic Games in the Washington, DC

From August 29 to September 2 Washington DC hosted the 80th Olympic Games of the Armenian Youth Federation (AYF). Over two thousand athletes and guests representing different branches of the Armenian Youth Federation (AYF) of the United States and Canada participated at the games and competed in a verity of sport activities.

The official opening ceremony of the Games was held on September 1st. In his address to the participants of the event Tatoul Markarian, Ambassador of Armenia to the United States stated that such events are not simply sport and athletic venues but a unique opportunity for consolidation of the Armenian youth of Diaspora, for preservation and development the Armenian identity, culture and traditions.

The day before the opening ceremony a delegation of 50 current and former members of the Armenian Youth Federation visited the Embassy of Armenia. During the conversation with Ambassador Markarian they touched upon number of issues of interest for the American-Armenian community, particularly with regard to Armenia’s foreign and domestic policy, the Nagorno-Karabakh peace process, Armenia’s position on the developments in the region and the Middle East, and Armenia’s relations with its neighbors.
